How to Measure a Bottom Gusset Pouch
1. Width (W)
- Lay the empty pouch flat on a table without stretching.
- Measure the total width from left edge to right edge.
Example:
W = 150 mm
2. Height (H)
- Measure from the bottom edge to the top seal.
- Do not include tear notches or excess film above the zipper.
- If the pouch has a zipper, height is measured including the zipper.
Example:
H = 200 mm
3. Bottom Gusset (G)
The bottom gusset is the folded section at the bottom of the pouch.
Standard Industry Method:
- Keep the pouch flat.
- Measure the gusset from fold line to fold line.
Example:
G = 40 mm
Industry standard: G is measured in the folded state.
Reference Method:
- When fully opened, the bottom width equals 2 × G.
(e.g. 80 mm expanded bottom = G 40 mm)
4. Standard Size Format
Flexible packaging dimensions are written as:
W × H + G
Example:
150 × 200 + 40 mm (Including zipper, if applicable)
5. Measurement Notes
* Do not stretch the pouch during measurement.
* Avoid heat-sealed edges when measuring.
* For quotations and production, always use design drawing dimensions.
* For K-seal bottom gusset pouches, gusset size is still quoted using the standard G measurement.
